To understand the causes of acid reflux, you should first understand the disease. This is the reflux of gas and sometimes fluids up the oesophagus. This is as a result of a faulty esophageal sphincter which connects the stomach and the oesophagus.

When we eat, hydrochloric acid is produced by the stomach to digest the food. This acid may reflux in to the oesophagus causing the disease. We should therefore try to make sure that the stomach ph is balanced.

Acid Reflux Causes include overeating, smoking, taking alcohol, fatty foods, spicy and over seasoned foods and sugary foods. This make the stomach produce more hydrochloric acid to digest the food. Smoking corrodes the oesophagus and the esophageal sphincter. This increases chances of getting acid reflux.

When we overeat more acid is produced. Chances are some of it may reflux into the oesophagus. Lifting weights after a meal is also an acid reflux cause. Going to bed to soon after a meal can also be an acid reflux cause.

Some women get the reflux when in their last trimester of pregnancy. This is as a result of the stomach being pushed up into the diaphragm by the growing baby. Wrong sitting positions during pregnancy can also be acid reflux cause. Eating should be in small portions more frequently throughout the day.

In babies, the acid reflux causes vary. To some babies. a digestive system that is not fully developed is the cause. Feeding methods can also be acid reflux causes. When feeding the baby you should always allow time for the gas swallowed with the food to be expelled out of the stomach. other acid reflux causes in babies include feeding too much, going to bed too soon after a meal, wrong sleeping positions and giving a baby wrong foods.

Noticing acid reflux in newborn babies is not an easy task to accomplish as there is a lot to accustom yourself with when taking care of the it. Constant consultations with the newborns pediatrician may play a key role in determining whether your baby is suffering from acid reflux or not and if indeed he suffers from it, then proper guidance and possible treatment may be provided to you by the doctor.

Common symptoms of acid reflux in the newborns are usually seen up to the age of one year. Anymore time later than that may serve as a sign of another disease the baby might be suffering from and the pediatrician would be best to advice. These symptoms include spitting up, continouos crying, difficulty in swallowing, burping and throwing up after the baby has had his meal.

The above symptoms tend to disappear on their own together with the disease as the newborn ages. This is only in the case of normal acid reflux in the babies though. When the baby is suffering from a chronic acid reflux condition, a pediatrician should be consulted to help in treating the problem so as to relieve the baby from the injustice of experiencing it.

Acid reflux in newborns is caused by realities such as underdeveloped digestive systems of babies, bad sleeping postures and bad feeding habits among other things. These causes make it possible for stomach contents of the baby to flow backwards into the baby’s throat. As the food content moves towards the throat, it carries with it stomach acid which harms the baby’s throat. The levels of damage done to the throat may be mild or at times so severe that the baby gets to feel pain on its back.Because of this reason alone, it is best that we try as much as possible to protect our babies from this torture of acid reflux.

To prevent newborns from having an acid reflux, you should position the baby in an inclined position as you put him down to sleep. Usually an angle of about 30 degrees is recommended. This position prevents any stomach content from moving up towards the baby’s throat due to gravitational pull generated from the baby’s stomach pulling down the contents and this helps the baby in sleeping peacefully without any disturbances from acid reflux.

Feeding the newborn in regular but small bits might also help to keep off the baby from acid reflux problems. What this remedy does is to try as much as possible to keep the infant feeling satisfied but at the same time prevent him from having a full stomach. Without a full stomach, pressure on the esophagus is minimized and possibility of the contents finding their way up to the throat is put to a halt. Acid reflux in newborns is therefore prevented as you try out this remedy.

For what i can say, never take a chance with your baby as acid reflux in the newborns is proving to be something that can not be wished away and many babies are suffering from it due to negligence on the part of parents.

An acid reflux disease diet can help control the occurrence of acid reflux and decrease the risk of heartburn for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) sufferers. Following a controlled diet is a matter of determining which foods trigger symptoms, and which foods are safe to eat.

Creating a two-week food diary, where you make a record of all the foods you ingest and the symptoms that follow, is the best way to discover the foods to eliminate. After two weeks, you should then present your food diary to your doctor or dietician so he/she can help create a diet plan that is beneficial for you.

Although it is in your best interest to create a food diary, the following are 7 food categories and the related foods you should avoid, or are considered safe to eat in each. The seven categories are:

1.	Dairy

2.	Meat

3.	Grains

4.	Vegetables and Fruit

5.	Fats and oil

6.	Sweets and snacks

7.	Beverages

By knowing what you should and shouldn’t eat within each food category is how you create an acid reflux disease diet that effectively relieves symptoms by stopping them before they start.

Foods you should avoid

The following foods should be eliminated or dramatically limited in an acid reflux disease diet, as ingesting them, even in small quantities, can aggravate symptoms and lead to recurring heartburn.

Dairy – Cottage cheese, sour cream, ice cream and ice cream related products (I.E. milk shakes, floats, etc.)

Meat – Buffalo wings, chicken nuggets, ground beef, and marbled steak

Grains – Pasta with marinara sauce, macaroni and cheese

Vegetables & Fruit – Vegetables: raw onion, French fires, mashed potatoes. Fruits: Citrus fruits and juices which include lemon, lime, lemonade, orange, orange juice, grapefruit and grapefruit juice, cranberry juice, tomato and tomato juice.

Fats and oil – Oily or creamy salad dressings, and essentially all fried or fatty processed Foods.

Sweets and Snacks – Chocolate, doughnuts, butter cookies, brownies, corn chips, and potato chips.

Beverages – Alcohol, regular or decaffeinated coffee and tea, high-sugared drinks such as soda.

Foods considered safe

The following foods are considered safe to eat and shouldn’t aggravate your GERD symptoms; therefore, they can become a regular part of your acid reflux disease diet.

Dairy – Fat-free cream cheese, feta or goat cheese, low-fat soy cheese.

Meat – Extra lean ground beef, London broiled steak, skinless chicken breast, egg whites, imitation eggs, and fish without additional fat.

Grains – Whole grain or white bread, corn bread, oatmeal, bran cereal, white or brown rice

Vegetables & Fruit – Vegetables: broccoli, carrots, cabbage, peas, green beans, and baked potato. Fruits: banana, fresh or dried apple, apple juice.

Fats and oil – low fat salad dressing

Sweets and Snacks – Pretzels, baked potato chips, graham crackers, rice cakes, fat free cookies, red liquorice, and jelly beans

Beverages – Water

Occasional treats

Last, but not least, the following is a brief list of foods you can occasionally enjoy in your acid reflux disease diet, but should be consumed with discretion and in moderation as they can aggravate symptoms:

Dairy – Yogurt, cheddar or mozzarella cheese

Meat -fired eggs, fried fish, hot dog, ham and tuna salad.

Grains – Granola cereal and muffin.

Vegetables & Fruit – Vegetables: garlic, leeks, and green onions. Fruits: low-acid orange juice, dried cranberries, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.

Fats and oil – ketchup

Sweets and Snacks – low-fat cookies

Beverages – non-alcoholic drinks and carbonated drinks

Finally, keep in mind that the above food lists are only general guidelines. Some of the foods considered safe to eat for one heartburn sufferer may not be the same for another. Therefore, make sure you keep a food diary to determine what the best acid reflux disease diet is for you, so you can effectively treat and prevent your symptoms.

Are medical doctors keeping an acid reflux natural treatment out of the public’s hands?

Have you realized that millions of people search the term, “how to cure acid reflux” each month? Millions of GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) sufferers are tired of buying antacids every other day for their acid reflux treatment. Though, doctors can’t seem to tell you anything but don’t eat spicy or acidic foods and take a pepcid. Is this fishy?

Are doctors hiding something about this disease that hurts over 15 million Americans a year?

Well, our company’s natural health doctor states, “Here is how to cure acid reflux with these secrets!”

How to Cure Acid Reflux

To break down what is happening when you have acid reflux, you must realize what the esophagus and lower esophageal sphincter (LES) do for your body. Here is a quick GERD 101 overview.

Your Esophagus- This is the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach. It gets the food to the stomach! However, GERD or Acid Reflux occurs when stomach acid leaks into the esophagus. The stomach acid will cause the pain described as ‘heartburn’. Overtime, which could be months or years, the esophagus will begin to breakdown and heartburn will only get worse. The good news is that the esophagus can repair itself naturally with time if NO stomach acid reaches it!

The LES- The LES or the Lower Esophageal Sphincter is a muscle flap separating the esophagus and stomach. After the food goes down the esophagus it meets the LES which allows it to go into the stomach.

While properly working, the LES maintains a higher pressure than that of the stomach so that food and stomach acid (also called digestive juices) cannot wash back into the esophagus. If the LES is weak or damaged, it can allow potent stomach acid into the esophagus which causes the infamous heartburn.

Now the Good News – If you allow the LES and esophagus to fully heal and strengthen the LES, you will have a 100% cured acid reflux problem.

Acid Reflux Treatment Secrets

So why are they called secrets? Did you know that light bulb companies could make light bulbs that last forever and save billions of dollars and help the environment? Why don’t they? Because it is bad business sense to have a one-time customer!

How does this relate to your reflux problem?

Unfortunately, money makes the world turn and antacid and some prescription companies need customers to stay in business. Therefore, most acid reflux sufferers spend their whole lives unaware that they can naturally cure acid reflux by healing and strengthening their esophagus and LES.

This is NOT too good to be true! Here are 3 secrets to treat acid reflux naturally.

1. Heal Your LES and Esophagus- Your body is miraculous and can almost heal every tissue in the body, including your LES and esophagus. You can do this by eating soft foods for 2-3 days to begin your natural treatment. By not scratching and helping digestion (by eating soft foods), you can give your LES and esophagus a chance to heal and strengthen.

2. Stop Taking Prescription Drugs- Many sufferers take drugs like Prilosec, Prevacid or Nexium. While this might remedy the GERD symptoms for 4-8 weeks, long-term use can cause the body to make a hormone called gastrin. Extra gastrin in your stomach tells the body to make more stomach acid.

The bad news is that there are gastrin receptors on the esophageal, pancreatic, and gastric cancer cells, and over-production of this hormone can cause cancer. By taking these meds more than 6 weeks you greatly increase your risk of getting cancer in esophagus, pancreas and stomach.

3. Know the Basics- There are rules you must follow until you cure your acid reflux disease and here a few! First off, you should avoid spicy and acidic foods for the time being (until your digestive tract is fully healed). Secondly, you avoid smoking and coffee consumption for the time being. Finally, you should use natural home remedies to expediate the healing process of the LES and esophagus.

For instance, my dad shares how a piece of fruit naturally cured his acid reflux on our Acid Reflux Natural Treatment Website.

Say Good-Bye to Acid Reflux

Over ten thousand satisfied customers have naturally treated acid reflux and no longer need the antacids or medication.

The symptoms of acid reflux disease are similar to those of the more common and benign symptoms of heartburn. If you find yourself frequently suffering from these symptoms, you should contact a doctor or health professional to help determine if it is only heartburn or something more serious like acid reflux disease / gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Discomfort along with aches and pains in the in the chest are the most common symptoms of acid reflux disease. Bloating and excess gas also are frequently associated with acid reflux as are a burning sensation in the chest and a bad taste in the throat and mouth.

As the acid in your stomach works it way back up the esophagus, it is not uncommon to feel bouts of nausea along with the general discomfort in the chest. This is especially true for pregnant women. If heartburn and nausea appear without any discernable cause, you should discuss the symptoms with your doctor as they can possibly be a sign of something more serious.

With all the internal fighting going on, another common symptom is the development of a headache.

Some tips to help keep acid reflux disease under control:

The most obvious but, in most cases, the hardest recommendation to follow is to completely avoid the foods that cause acid reflux. Unfortunately, doing this will more thank likely end up making your diet a bland and not very tasty experience. Continue to enjoy the foods that you like, but do so in moderation. Take note of the foods that do wind up causing acid reflux and be sure to take special care not to over do it when it comes to those foods. Do your best to stay away from fatty and fried foods as well.

Many people drink milk in an attempt to relieve their discomfort. What they don’t realize is that this may be doing them more harm than good as after the initial relief that milk brings from washing the acid back down the esophagus, it frequently spurs the production of more acid in the stomach. If you do feel the need for some milk, try drinking soy milk instead.

Avoid eating too close to bedtime. Lying down allows your stomach acid to flow more easily back up your esophagus and can help amplify your discomfort. If you find yourself having to eat close to bedtime, you can try sleeping sitting in a slightly upright or reclining position.

There are many more things that you can do to help improve your situation if you are suffering symptoms of acid reflux disease. Regardless of the steps you take, you should be sure to consult with a health professional.

Acid reflux is commonly called Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. It is the spilling of the stomach contents, (food, acid, pepsin, bile acids, and pancreatic enzymes) into the esophagus. A small amount of spilling of stomach contents happens in all individuals, especially after meals. Only when symptoms and complications occur is it considered a problem.

Some people need long-term daily acid suppressing treatment. Without medication, their symptoms return quickly. Long-term treatment is thought to be safe, and side-effects are uncommon. The aim is to take a full dose course for a month or so to settle symptoms. After this, it is common to ’step-down’ the dose to the lowest dose that prevents symptoms. However, the maximum full dose taken each day is needed in some cases.

Diet and Lifestyle Changes. For those suffering from mild cases of acid reflux, implementing positive lifestyle changes is a very effective acid reflux treatment. This involves altering your diet to avoid foods that trigger reflux; eating foods that can reduce your stomach’s acidity; avoiding unhealthy habits like smoking and drinking; and changing your wardrobe to avoid tight-fitting belts and clothes that squeeze your stomach. Adopting a stress management plan is also a good acid reflux treatment, especially for patients whose conditions are caused by stress-related stomach upsets.

Surgery is never the first option for treating GERD. Changes in lifestyle and habits, nonprescription antacids, and prescription medications all must be tried before resorting to surgery. Only if all else fails is surgery recommended. Because lifestyle changes and medications work well in most people, surgery is done on only a small number of people.

When you suffer from chronic heartburn, whether it’s caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or some other digestive disorder, it’s important to know how to treat the heartburn. Untreated acid reflux may lead to complications, including esophageal cancer.

Treating or preventing reflux esophagitis may be as easy as supplementing normal acid suppression remedies with an antioxidant extract of the wormwood herb Artemisia asiatica. Reflux esophagitis is inflammation of the esophagus. This is a result of regurgitation of the stomach contents, or acid reflux. The condition is more commonly recognized as heartburn which reportedly affects more.

Try nursing when baby is sleepy. Babies with reflux tend to wake more often, so take advantage of this opportunity to work in extra feedings. Keep baby close to you during the night.

Acid reflux disease treatments are broken down into lifestyle changes, over-the-counter acid reflux medicine, prescribed acid reflux medication, natural remedy for acid reflux and acid reflux surgery. We will discuss the various pros and cons of taking acid reflux drugs as well as other alternative acid reflux relief and remedy.

Medications commonly used in the treatment of acid reflux include acid suppressants, such as H2-antagonists and proton-pump inhibitors, which reduce the production of acid in the stomach, and prokinetic agents, which work by increasing the pressure of the lower oesophageal sphincter and promoting emptying of the stomach. Antacids are non-prescription medicines that are commonly used to treat acid-related symptoms, like heartburn or indigestion, and work by neutralising acid in the stomach. However, they are not usually recommended to treat the frequent heartburn suffered by people with GORD.

The Causes of Acid Reflux

Those people who suffer with the extreme discomfort caused by acid reflux will ask the obvious question, “what causes acid reflux?” Yet the answer to this question is not so simple for each person is different.

common causes of acid reflux

lower oesophagus sphincter

hiatal hernia

esophageal contractions

emptying of the stomach

over production of acid

The common name for acid reflux is heartburn and this is experienced by the burning sensation behind the breast bone. This pain is caused by the acid in the stomach seeping into the oesophagus. The acid is allowed to reflux into the oesophagus. Even a very slight opening into the oesophagus will allow acid to creep in and the pain were commence. The level of pain depends very much on how much acid is released.

There are several medicinal remedies to control acid production in the stomach. These medicines may very well prevent the production of acid in the gut but the fact remains that whatever liquidity is in the stomach will seep into the oesophagus. There may be no acid to reflux yet reflux will continue.

The lower esophagus sphincter has a specific function and that is to open when a person swallows. Mind you however, the opening should only last for a few seconds it is then meant to close to prevent reflux from taking place. He weakened muscle in this area will allow acid reflux to continue. Another problem is that the lower esophagus sphincter may open for too long. Against this allows acid reflux to happen.

Herniated Hiatal Muscles and its effects on the Diaphragm

The diaphragm is situated on the same level as the lower esophagus sphincter. An hiatal hernia will allow a small section of the stomach to pass through the diaphragm and unfortunately this were forced acid once again into the oesophagus and initiate a horrendous pain associated with the condition.

Many patients who experience problems with the lower oesophagus find that they take longer to empty stomach contents than the average person. The more time it takes for the stomach to empty the more time there is far acid to reflux into the oesophagus.

Over eating can also trigger acid reflux pain. When you over eat when you fill the stomach and there is no room in it. Therefore the acid has to go somewhere and yes you guessed — it goes back into the oesophagus. A person who suffers into chronic pain of acid reflux will find that over eating and ending and sitting forward while the stomach is full, that they once again experience untenable pain of acid reflux.

Baby Acid Reflux is worth noting and learning more about especially for young mothers who have never encountered such cases. Acid reflux occurs when the valve in a baby’s esophagus remains open after feeding, This makes the contents in the stomach to return back with force to the mouth. This valve, the lower esophageal sphincter, works well in most infants but they are not so rare cases in reality.

Babies are often seen messed up in their own spit. This is a common problem which is faced the parents of the babies especially after their meals. It is called as acid reflux and that is the why the baby spit up what he/she has consumed. However, this gets cured as the baby grows up or till the baby becomes 6 to 12 months old. This is mainly caused due to the pressure caused on the digestive system. It is not a simple task to know whether the baby is suffering from acid reflux, a constant check on the baby’s health needs to be kept. This record can be maintained with the help or guidance of your baby’s pediatrician.

What causes baby acid reflux:

The reflux is nothing but the acid, which due delicate digestive, travels back in the throat. The pressure created on the stomach is responsible for the reflux which results in the spiting up. If this reflux is seen over a longer period of time doctor’s advice would be needed.

Symptoms to notice in the baby:

Vomiting or spiting up is the common symptom of baby acid reflux. Other prominent symptoms are loosing weight, continuous crying, difficulty in breathing, swallowing problems, frequent fever are also noticed in some baby’s. Though some baby’s are healthy a constant check should be kept on the baby.

Small necessary steps will definitely improve the baby’s health

Big meals can be cut down into small frequent meals. Feeding at regular intervals will create less pressure on the stomach.

Holding the baby straight during and after the food will ease the digestive system and will let pass the gas by making the baby burp.

Change the consistency of the baby’s diet /food. Make it a little thick, with your doctor’s permission.

Breast feeding will make a bond between the mother and the child so doesn’t hesitate in giving the natural nutrient to your loved one.

Make sure that the baby fed in less chaotic and a peaceful environment.

The baby should be made to sleep with the head slightly inclined and when he is awake make him/her sleep on the stomach for sometime after it’s the meal.

If the baby is been fed by a sipper or a bottle check if the size of the nipple’s hole is proper and no too large.

Use the reflux below to make your baby sleep on it.

All the above simple tips will make your baby lead a happy healthy life under proper doctor’s guidance.

Baby Acid Reflux -learn more and take care.
